Where can you spend USDC?

USDC is the stablecoin you are most likely to be able to spend. Issued by Circle and redeemable one-for-one for US dollars, it is supported by essentially every crypto payment gateway, available on a wide range of low-fee networks, and accepted by more merchants in this directory than any other coin. If a business accepts exactly one stablecoin, it is usually this one. For payments specifically, USDC's advantages are practical rather than ideological: broad network coverage means you can nearly always find a cheap route, and its position as the default listing on major gateways means the merchant's checkout is likely to have it enabled already.

What can you buy with USDC?

USDC is the practical default for spending stablecoins, and the reason is coverage rather than any particular technical merit.

Why USDC dominates merchant checkouts

Payment gateways decide what merchants can accept, and USDC is enabled by default on nearly all of them. A merchant who installs a crypto checkout gets USDC support without making a decision about it. That compounding effect — every new integration adds USDC support automatically — is why the coverage gap between USDC and everything except USDT keeps widening at the point of sale.

Circle also invested heavily in native issuance across chains rather than relying on bridges. Native USDC on Base, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum and others means a merchant can accept payment on a network where the fee is a fraction of a cent, without the counterparty risk of a wrapped asset. For small payments — a $12 domain renewal, a $20 API top-up — that is the difference between the payment making sense and not.

Choosing your network

This is the only decision that costs you money. USDC on Ethereum mainnet, USDC on Base and USDC on Solana are all worth a dollar; the transfer fee differs by orders of magnitude.

Use the cheapest network the merchant’s checkout offers. If the merchant offers only Ethereum mainnet and the payment is small, the gas may genuinely be worth reconsidering the purchase — or worth asking the merchant whether they can enable a layer 2, since most gateways make that a checkbox.

The mistake that actually costs people money

Sending to the right address on the wrong network. Every chain has its own USDC contract, and a transfer to a Base address routed over Ethereum mainnet does not arrive — it goes to an address that may or may not be controlled by anyone able to recover it.

Merchant checkouts state the network prominently for this reason. Read it, select the matching network in your wallet, and send a small test amount first if the payment is large. There is no support desk that can reverse a chain transfer.

USDC questions

Where can I spend USDC?
Travel booking sites, web hosting and domain registrars, VPN providers, gift card platforms, AI and developer tooling, and a growing set of online retailers. Browse the full directory or the merchants listed on this page. For anything not listed, a gift card platform that accepts USDC will reach most large retail brands.
Which network should I use to pay with USDC?
Whichever cheap network the merchant supports — usually Base, Solana, Polygon or Arbitrum. The merchant receives the same dollar amount regardless, so you are choosing purely on fee and speed. Only use Ethereum mainnet if it is the merchant's only option, since gas can be a meaningful fraction of a small payment.
Is USDC the same on every network?
The balance is worth the same, but the token is a different contract on each chain, and sending to an address on the wrong network is the most common way people lose funds. Always match the network shown at the merchant's checkout exactly. Bridged or wrapped variants also exist on some chains and are not always accepted — use the native issuance where the merchant specifies it.
Do merchants prefer USDC over USDT?
Merchants in North America and Europe often default to USDC, and merchants serving Asian and emerging markets often default to USDT. Many accept both. The difference matters less to you than to them — from a payer's perspective, use whichever you hold and the merchant lists.
