Stablecoin payment gateways compared

There is no single best gateway, only a best gateway for a given business. This compares the main options on the criteria that actually decide it.

[object Object] Published

Gateway comparisons usually rank providers on fees, which is the least interesting variable. Fees in this category cluster within a percentage point of each other and all sit below card interchange.

What actually decides it is settlement, custody, integration and geography. This guide compares on those.

The five questions that decide it

1. Do you want fiat or stablecoins? This is the big one and it eliminates most of the field immediately. If your answer is “dollars in my bank account”, you need a custodial gateway with fiat settlement and the non-custodial options are irrelevant regardless of price.

2. Where is your bank? Fiat settlement is jurisdiction-specific. A European merchant wanting euros to a European bank has a different shortlist from a US merchant wanting dollars.

3. What are you selling? A catalogue store needs a plugin. A SaaS product needs subscription handling. A creator selling one digital product needs a payment link and nothing else.

4. Who is your customer? Their location determines which coins and networks matter. Customers across Asia and Africa arrive holding USDT on Tron. Western customers arrive with USDC on Base.

5. What can your compliance function accept? For most businesses this is not a constraint. For some it is the only one that matters.

Fees are omitted deliberately. They change, they vary by volume and product, and quoting a stale number is worse than quoting none. Every provider publishes current pricing; check it there.

Recommendations by situation

You already use Stripe

Look at Stripe first. Not because the product is better than the crypto-native alternatives — it is narrower — but because “no new vendor, no new contract, no new reconciliation process” defeats a marginally better feature set for most businesses.

Check country availability, which lags Stripe’s core product in places.

You run a Shopify or WooCommerce store and want dollars in the bank

BitPay or Coinbase Commerce. BitPay if fiat settlement and a mature support organisation matter most; Coinbase Commerce if you want the best USDC and Base experience and can work with Coinbase for the fiat leg.

You are European and want euros

CoinGate or Confirmo. Both settle euros to European banks, which removes a conversion your US-centric alternatives would impose.

If you price in euros, also enable EURC — a euro-priced invoice paid in a euro stablecoin has no exchange rate anywhere in the chain.

You want to receive stablecoins, not fiat

NOWPayments for breadth and a low fee. Non-custodial, so nothing sits with a provider, and you own the treasury question that follows.

You sell subscriptions

Radom is among the few taking recurring billing seriously. Read accepting stablecoin payments on why this is genuinely hard before committing to a monthly billing promise.

You are a creator selling digital goods

Helio. Payment links, no storefront required, Solana economics that make small-value sales viable.

Your compliance team has to approve it

Triple-A. Licensed, audit-friendly, priced accordingly. Overkill for a small merchant and exactly right when the blocker is a vendor risk assessment rather than an integration.

Your customers are in Asia-Pacific

Alchemy Pay, for local fiat rails and Tron support. Confirm what is actually available in your specific market — coverage varies considerably.

How we rank

We do not publish a single ordered “best gateway” list, because the answer genuinely depends on the business. Where we do compare, the criteria are stablecoin and network support, settlement options, integration coverage, custody model, geographic availability, published pricing transparency and verification recency.

Sponsorship never affects any of that. Paid placements are labelled as such and appear as placements rather than as rankings. See our editorial policy.

Before you commit

Every profile in this directory carries a verification date and a source list. This category moves quickly — asset lists, fees and country availability all change — so confirm the specifics against the provider’s own documentation before signing anything. Our verification methodology explains what our dates mean.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest stablecoin payment gateway?
Non-custodial providers generally advertise the lowest headline rates, often below 1%, because they do not convert or hold funds. Custodial gateways with fiat settlement charge more for doing considerably more. Compare on total cost including conversion, not on the headline rate.
Which gateway should a Shopify store use?
Coinbase Commerce, BitPay, CoinGate and NOWPayments all maintain Shopify integrations, and Stripe merchants may be able to enable stablecoin payments without adding a provider at all. The deciding factor is usually whether you want fiat settlement.
What is the difference between custodial and non-custodial gateways?
A custodial gateway receives your customer's payment, holds it briefly, and settles to you — often in fiat. A non-custodial gateway routes payment directly to your wallet and never takes possession. The trade is convenience and fiat settlement against counterparty risk.
Do I need a separate gateway if I already use Stripe?
Possibly not. Stripe has added stablecoin acceptance for merchants on its platform, which for an existing Stripe business removes the need for a second vendor, contract and reconciliation process. Availability varies by country.
