Where can you spend EURC?

EURC is a euro-denominated stablecoin issued by Circle, the same company behind USDC. It matters for a specific and underrated reason: if you are paying a European merchant who prices in euros, settling in a euro stablecoin removes a currency conversion that would otherwise happen twice. Pay a €50 invoice in USDC and someone converts dollars to euros, usually at a spread you do not see. Pay it in EURC and the amount is simply €50. Merchant acceptance is narrower than USDC's and concentrated among European businesses and gateways with strong EU coverage, which is exactly where it is useful.

What can you buy with EURC?

EURC solves a small problem well, and the small problem is more expensive than most people realise.

The double conversion

Consider a €200 invoice from a European supplier. You hold USDC. You pay in USDC, and the gateway converts to euros for the merchant at a rate that includes a spread. If you originally bought that USDC with euros, you paid a spread on the way in too.

Neither conversion appears as a line item. Both cost real money — typically a few tenths of a per cent each, sometimes considerably more on smaller amounts through consumer platforms. On a €200 invoice that is small. On recurring European supplier payments it adds up to something a finance team would notice if it were labelled.

EURC removes both. A euro balance paying a euro price involves no exchange rate at all.

Where the coverage is

EURC acceptance clusters where you would expect: European merchants, European hosting and domain providers, and gateways with strong EU market presence. It is not a general substitute for USDC and is not accepted at most of the global platforms in this directory.

The sensible pattern is to hold EURC if you regularly pay euro-denominated bills and USDC otherwise, rather than treating one as a replacement for the other.

A note on thinking in dollars

If you mentally price your holdings in dollars, remember that EURC is not a dollar-stable asset. Its dollar value moves with EUR/USD like any euro balance. That is not a defect — it is the entire point — but it does mean a EURC balance is the wrong place to park money you think of as dollars.

EURC questions

Why use EURC instead of USDC?
When the price is in euros. Paying a euro invoice with a dollar stablecoin means a conversion, and conversions cost money — usually through a spread rather than a stated fee. If the merchant quotes euros and accepts EURC, paying in EURC is straightforwardly cheaper.
Which merchants accept EURC?
Mostly European businesses and merchants using gateways with strong EU coverage. It is a much smaller set than USDC. We list what we can verify on this page.
Is EURC pegged to the euro or the dollar?
The euro. One EURC is intended to be redeemable for one euro. Its value in dollars moves with the EUR/USD exchange rate, which is worth remembering if you think of your balance in dollars.
