Windscribe is a Canadian VPN with a long-running free tier and a reputation for being straightforward about what it does and does not log. It sells monthly and annual plans plus a build-your-own option where you pay per server location.

One stablecoin, and it is not the one most people hold

The supported-currency list is twenty-five assets long. It includes Bitcoin over Lightning, Monero, and a scattering of small-cap tokens most merchants would not bother with. It contains exactly one stablecoin: USD Coin, ERC20.

There is no USDT. Not on Tron, not on Ethereum, not anywhere. Given that Tether is the more widely held of the two by a wide margin, and given how comprehensive the rest of the list is, this reads as a deliberate choice rather than an oversight.

Practically: if you hold USDT and want Windscribe, you are swapping first. Factor the swap cost into the comparison before deciding this is cheaper than a card.

Ethereum-only has a cost

USDC here is ERC-20 only. No Base, no Polygon, no Solana, no Arbitrum.

A Windscribe Pro subscription is roughly the price of a couple of coffees per month. Ethereum mainnet gas at a quiet moment might be well under a dollar; during congestion it can be several dollars. On a monthly subscription that is a poor trade. On a multi-year plan bought in one transaction, it disappears into the noise.

This is the honest calculation, and it points at buying the longest term you are comfortable with if you are paying this way at all. If the reason you want to pay in crypto is privacy rather than cost, the maths matters less — but note that Windscribe also accepts Monero, which serves that goal considerably better than a transparent-ledger stablecoin does.

Where this sits among VPNs

NordVPN, Surfshark and Private Internet Access all route crypto through a gateway whose asset list can shift underneath them. Windscribe maintains its own list. That means fewer coins, but a much clearer answer to “will this work on the day I try it”.
