Payment notes

Verified August 2026: Namecheap credits crypto payments to your account balance rather than applying them to a single order, and that balance can auto-renew domains when it covers the renewal — which solves the biggest problem with paying for domains in crypto. BitPay requests identity verification for payments of $3,000 or more and for any refund request. The payment window is 15 minutes, and the quoted rate holds only while it is open. Namecheap does not publish its own coin list; it is BitPay's.

Refunds

BitPay and BTCPay deposits are non-refundable per Namecheap's own documentation. Account credit stays as credit. Domain registrations are non-refundable once processed, which is an industry norm rather than a Namecheap policy.

Stablecoin refunds are outbound payments a merchant chooses to send, not automatic reversals. There is no chargeback.

Namecheap is one of the largest registrars in the world and has accepted crypto since 2013, which makes it the default answer for buying a domain with stablecoins.

Account credit solves the renewal problem

This is the important detail and the reason we would point most people here first. Crypto payments credit your Namecheap balance. Domains set to auto-renew will draw from that balance automatically if there is enough in it.

That closes the gap that makes paying for domains in crypto risky everywhere else — the domain that lapses because nobody paid the manual invoice. Keep a year of renewals in the balance and the problem simply does not arise.

Scope of the balance

The credit covers more than domains: hosting, SSL certificates, email and the company’s other services. For someone consolidating several small recurring costs onto a stablecoin balance, that is convenient.

Registration data

Paying in crypto does not make the registration private. WHOIS privacy is a separate service, and ICANN still requires accurate registrant contact information. See domain names for more on that distinction.

Verification

Payment availability may vary Verified August 2026

Crypto payment is confirmed, but the exact coin list is not fixed — it can depend on your country, the product, which checkout you reach, or which assets the merchant's payment gateway currently enables.

Namecheap documents adding account funds via BitPay and via BTCPay, but does not enumerate the accepted coins itself — its knowledge base links out to BitPay's list. Acceptance is confirmed; the specific assets are whatever BitPay supports at the time you pay. The coin list is BitPay's rather than one the merchant publishes, so it tracks whatever BitPay currently supports: USDC, USDT, DAI, PYUSD, USDP, GUSD and EURC across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon and Solana.
