A dash means we found no evidence of support, not that support is impossible. Coin availability at checkout can differ by country and product.
Sotheby's bidder's guide, first published in June 2021 and still live, sets out the process. Payment options for a crypto-designated lot are "BTC, ETH, and USDC as payment, as well as our traditional payment methods". The wallet rule is strict: cryptocurrency payments are accepted "from only the following exchange wallets" — the five custodians listed above — and "payments from digital wallets hosted at other exchanges or self-hosted wallets will not be recognised or accepted and in such circumstances payment will be required in US dollars". The process: Sotheby's asks the winning bidder whether they wish to pay in BTC, ETH or USDC, requests a wallet address at one of the approved exchanges to review, verifies identity (photo ID must already be on file), then "will send an invoice and a Coinbase Commerce payment link, which will enable payments in BTC, ETH, or USDC". Payment must be remitted within ten business days, "between the hours of 9:00am and 12:00pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (and not on a U.S. public holiday)", at the crypto equivalent of the invoice at the time of payment, with the buyer responsible for network fees. No network is named for USDC; because the source must be an approved exchange account, the exchange's withdrawal options and Coinbase Commerce's link decide it.
Not documented for crypto beyond the conditions of sale. Auction purchases are final; where a refund is due under the conditions of sale it would be made by Sotheby's in its own way rather than reversed on chain.
Stablecoin refunds are outbound payments a merchant chooses to send, not automatic reversals. There is no chargeback.
Sotheby’s has the most conditional stablecoin checkout in this directory, and every condition is in its own words. That makes it a useful record even for people who will never bid: it shows what a regulated seller of six-figure objects actually requires before it will take USDC.
Coinbase, Coinbase Custody, Fidelity Digital Assets, Gemini, Paxos. Pay from anywhere else — including your own wallet — and Sotheby’s will not recognise the payment and will require dollars instead. The point is provenance of funds: an account at a regulated custodian carries the identity checks Sotheby’s wants attached to the payment. Self-custody, the thing most of this directory is about, is excluded on purpose.
Win a lot marked “Cryptocurrency Payments”. Tell Sotheby’s you want to pay in BTC, ETH or USDC. Give them a wallet address at one of the five custodians to review. Have government photo ID on file. Receive an invoice and a Coinbase Commerce link. Pay within ten business days, between nine and noon New York time on a weekday, at the crypto value of the invoice at that moment, plus network fees. It is a process built for a compliance department, and it works for exactly that reason.
Which lots carry the designation today. The guide dates from 2021 — Sotheby’s first crypto sales — and remains the live policy page, but the services pages that would show current designated lots could not be read by our tools. Treat this record as “how it works when a lot is eligible” and check the lot.

Crypto payment is confirmed, but the exact coin list is not fixed — it can depend on your country, the product, which checkout you reach, or which assets the merchant's payment gateway currently enables.
Sotheby's own bidder's guide names USDC, names Coinbase Commerce as the processor, and sets out the custodian, identity and timing rules quoted above. That is merchant documentation naming the coin. The status is "may vary" rather than verified because acceptance is lot-specific — the merchant's own wording is "if a lot indicates 'Cryptocurrency Payments'" — and because the guide is dated June 2021 and we could not confirm from a current sale page which lots, if any, carry the designation today; sothebys.com's services pages could not be read by our tools. No network is named for USDC, so the field is empty. Physical locations are the salerooms; the count is not asserted. StablecoinSpend has no relationship with Sotheby's or Coinbase.
Payment availability can change without notice. Always confirm at Sotheby's’s own checkout before paying. Spotted something wrong?

Get notified when its stablecoin payment options change — a coin added or dropped, a gateway switch, or acceptance withdrawn. Dated and sourced, or not sent.
Double opt-in. Nothing is sent until you confirm, and every email links to manage or unfollow.
Payment options change without notice. If Sotheby's’s checkout no longer matches what is on this page, tell us — an editor re-verifies against the merchant’s own documentation before anything changes here.
Reports go to a review queue. They never change a listing directly.
