A dash means we found no evidence of support, not that support is impossible. Coin availability at checkout can differ by country and product.
Paying is a QR scan at the checkout from the AEC Wallet app, which holds AE Coin at a fixed 1:1 peg to the dirham. Mbank's own FAQ states the wallet carries no transaction fees, that opening one requires an Mbank account, and that only UAE residents of legal age can open one — so this is a route for residents rather than visitors, and the identity checks are the bank's, done at wallet sign-up rather than at the till. The stablecoin is AE Coin and nothing else; someone holding USDC or USDT has no way to spend it here. That makes this the mirror image of most of the directory: a regulated, fiat-denominated payment token doing the job a debit card does, at a supermarket, under a central bank licence. It is the shape stablecoin retail payments take when a regulator builds the rails, and it is worth knowing about for that reason even if you will never hold AEC.
Not documented for AE Coin payments. Mbank's wallet documentation covers redemption of the balance back to dirhams in a linked bank account, but store refunds are the retailer's policy and are not published for this payment method.
Stablecoin refunds are outbound payments a merchant chooses to send, not automatic reversals. There is no chargeback.
A supermarket that takes a stablecoin at the till is rare enough that it is worth being precise about what kind of stablecoin, and what kind of till.
AE Coin is a dirham-pegged payment token licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE and issued by AED Stablecoin LLC. You hold it in the AEC Wallet, an app from Al Maryah Community Bank, and you pay by scanning a QR code at the checkout. The bank’s own FAQ says the wallet has no transaction fees and that the balance can be redeemed back to dirhams in a linked account.
So this is not USDC at a supermarket. It is a regulated, local-currency token doing what a debit card does, on a rail the regulator built. If you hold dollar stablecoins there is nothing here for you; if you are a UAE resident with an Mbank account, it is a way to pay for groceries from a blockchain balance with no fee on your side.
UAE residents aged 18 or over, with an Mbank account, in store. Those are Mbank’s conditions, not ours, and they follow from the licence: the identity check happens once, at wallet sign-up, which is why the till itself needs nothing but a scan. Visitors cannot open the wallet. Online orders on selectmarket.ae do not offer it.
Because it answers the question this site exists for in a way almost nothing else does. Most of the directory is online: hosting, gift cards, flights, software. The food category was two convenience chains reached through a US wallet network, and everything else was a card that buys food. Select Market is a grocery aisle.
It also shows the other model. Everywhere else here, a stablecoin reaches a merchant through a crypto gateway the merchant chose. In the UAE the central bank licensed the token, a bank built the wallet, and merchants plugged in — Air Arabia first, then a supermarket, hotels, a taxi firm, a florist. Whether that model spreads is an open question; that it works at a checkout in Abu Dhabi is not.
Anything from the merchant’s own domain. Select Market’s site does not mention AE Coin, and the listing rests on the issuing bank’s merchant page and a launch announcement in which the supermarket’s general manager is quoted. That is a licensed bank’s word plus the merchant’s, which is why it is listed — and it is not the merchant’s own payment page, which is why the status is “may vary” and the record is explicit about being in-store only.
Air Arabia is the other AE Coin merchant here with its own announcement. Dusit Thani and Southern Sun Abu Dhabi take the same wallet at the front desk. The AE Coin hub has the full list and the regulatory background, and the United Arab Emirates page covers the wider picture.
Crypto payment is confirmed, but the exact coin list is not fixed — it can depend on your country, the product, which checkout you reach, or which assets the merchant's payment gateway currently enables.
Two sources, both on the payment-provider side of the relationship. Al Maryah Community Bank — the licensed bank that issues the AEC Wallet — lists Select Market on its own AEC Wallet merchants page with "AEC Wallet-enabled payments at checkout". A press release of 21 July 2025 published through Gulf News announces the Mbank–Select Market partnership, describes payment as "scanning a QR code via the app", and quotes Select Market's general manager, which is the merchant speaking, though not on its own domain. selectmarket.ae itself carries no mention of AE Coin, the AEC Wallet or stablecoins, which is why the status is "may vary" rather than verified and why the record says "in store only" — there is no evidence of the option online. Mbank's FAQ supplies the residency and account requirements. Company identity is from the merchant's own site: Abu Dhabi, part of DAS Holding Group, multiple branches.
Payment availability can change without notice. Always confirm at Select Market’s own checkout before paying. Spotted something wrong?

Added to directory
Added on the strength of Mbank's merchant listing and the July 2025 launch announcement. Select Market's own site does not mention the option.
Get notified when its stablecoin payment options change — a coin added or dropped, a gateway switch, or acceptance withdrawn. Dated and sourced, or not sent.
Double opt-in. Nothing is sent until you confirm, and every email links to manage or unfollow.
Payment options change without notice. If Select Market’s checkout no longer matches what is on this page, tell us — an editor re-verifies against the merchant’s own documentation before anything changes here.
Reports go to a review queue. They never change a listing directly.
