Payment notes

This is a Singapore-only integration and it is important not to over-read it. Sony as a global company does not accept stablecoins; Sony Electronics (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. accepts USDC on one storefront, through Crypto.com Pay. The mechanism matters too — Crypto.com Pay is an account-based product rather than an open on-chain checkout, so in practice you are paying from a Crypto.com balance rather than sending from a self-custody wallet to an address. Sony stated at launch that it intends to add further crypto assets; we have not seen an announcement that it has.

Sony Store Online is Sony’s own retail channel in Singapore — cameras and lenses, headphones and speakers, Bravia televisions, PlayStation hardware. Since April 2025 its checkout has included USDC.

Read the scope carefully

Headlines at the time said “Sony accepts stablecoins”. That is not what happened, and the distinction is the whole value of this listing.

What happened is that Sony Electronics (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., a national subsidiary, enabled USDC on one storefront, in one country, through one payment provider. Sony’s stores in Japan, the US, the UK and everywhere else do not take stablecoins. If you are outside Singapore, this record tells you where the option exists, not that it exists for you.

It is still notable. Consumer electronics brands of this size overwhelmingly do not touch crypto at the checkout, and the ones that dabble usually do it through a gift-card intermediary rather than direct acceptance. This is direct.

The mechanism is account-based, not on-chain

Crypto.com Pay is not a hosted on-chain checkout in the way BitPay or CoinGate are. It settles from a Crypto.com account balance. Practically, that means:

  • You need a Crypto.com account, which is KYC’d. This is not an anonymous payment path.
  • You are not sending a transaction from a self-custody wallet to a merchant address, so the “which network?” question that dominates most records in this directory does not really apply.
  • Your USDC needs to be in Crypto.com, so if it is sitting in a hardware wallet there is a deposit step first, with its own network choice and fee.

None of that is a criticism — it is a perfectly reasonable way to build the integration, and it is why the launch could happen at a company with Sony’s compliance requirements. But it is a different product from what most people picture when they read “accepts USDC”.

Whether it is worth using

If you already hold USDC inside Crypto.com and you are buying Sony hardware in Singapore, this is frictionless and there is no reason not to. If you hold USDC in a wallet, you are adding a deposit, a wait, and a KYC relationship in order to avoid a card payment — and there is no discount at the end of it that we can find. Sony ran launch promotions in 2025; those have expired.

Sony said at launch it planned to expand to other cryptocurrencies. We have found no announcement that it has, and we will record it here if it does.

An editor confirmed these payment options against the sources listed below.

Sony Electronics (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. and Crypto.com jointly announced USDC acceptance on Sony Store Online on 2 April 2025. The announcement names USDC as the stablecoin, Crypto.com Pay as the payment product, Singapore as the market, and states that Sony plans to expand to other cryptocurrencies from that starting point. No blockchain network is specified, which is consistent with Crypto.com Pay being an account-balance product rather than a direct on-chain checkout, so networks is left empty. KYC is recorded as required because a Crypto.com account is itself a KYC'd product.
